As a university lecturer, Bo-Founder Serhat Şengül holds classes at Boreal. Open to all fashion-lovers, these classes let everyone progress in the fashion industry through trainings, short courses and workshops. Trainings mainly focus on developing a fashion future and excel in different areas within the industry. Throughout the courses, as an insider, Serhat Şengül shares sector-related experiences by combining them with academia and hosting top names of the industry as guest speakers. Serhat Şengül, BO-Founder:
Majored in chemical engineering, focusing on textile engineering and then studied MBA in Galatasaray University, Serhat Sengul joined Global Investment Holdings, where he worked at Investor Relations and PR departments. After his studies at London College of Fashion focusing on Fashion Branding in Globalized Markets, he acted as a fashion editor and a brand consultant. Prior to his role as executive founder of a creative agency and a fashion PR showroom, he had worked as an account manager at a fashion PR agency serving global luxury brands and fashion designers. As per June 2018, he poured his visions into Boreal, a brandlifting house rendering broader and more inclusive services to brands.
In 2015, with his interviews, he had acted as the editor of a fashion coffee table book. Today he also acts as a freelance editor for Esquire Turkey, being the editor of the publishing’s prestigious book -the Big Black Book- since 2012, while he has contributed with his fashion articles and fashion shootings to the monthly Esquire Turkey, All Magazine, Forbes, Marie Claire, Harper’s Bazaar and acts as editor-in-chief at several other brands’ magazines. Since 2015, he has been lecturing in Istanbul Bilgi University Fashion Design Department as well as at other private schools. He currently acts as creative director and fashion consultant for brands and designers.
Location
BO is not only located in the fashion heart of Istanbul, but also rising up on history. The historical building located in Valikonagi St. No: 39, used to be the house of one of the most successful architects in Turkish history. Acting between the periods of late Ottoman Empire and newly founded Turkish Republic, Architect and Civil Engineer Vedat Tek designed this 4-storey building as a home to himself and his family. Being one of the leading architects of the First Turkish Architectural Movement, he was inspired by the Seljuk and Ottoman Architecture. His house, built in 1913 and today housing Boreal on its second floor, reflects his style with Turkish tiles and asymmetric geometry providing an effective use of space. His great works all around Turkey, including Istanbul Main Post Office (Sirkeci), Haydarpasa and Moda Ferryboat piers, Second Turkish Parliament Building (Ankara), reflect his colorful and ornate style in architecture.
About the Architect Vedat Tek
Of Cretan Turkish origin, Vedat Tek was born in 1873 in Istanbul to the governor of Baghdad Province Giritli Sırrı Pasha and composer Leyla Saz as their second son. After finishing Galatasaray High School in Istanbul he was sent to France for higher education. He attended Académie Julian for studies in painting and then studied at École Centrale Paris graduating with a degree in civil engineering before he got his further education in architecture in École des Beaux Arts in Paris. He thus became the first formally educated Turkish architect.
After returning home in 1897, Vedat Tek contributed with his projects to the founding of the first Turkish national architecture movement. He served as the chief architect of the Engineering Corps at the Ministry of War. Later, Sultan Mehmet V appointed him chief court architect.
He also gave lectures at Sanayi-i Nefise Mekteb-i (today’s Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts) and Mühendis Mekteb-i Alisi (today’s Istanbul Technical University). Vedat Tek was one of the first Turkish lecturers at the Academy of Fine Arts.
Architect of the Post and Telegraph Ministry edat Tek became popular as an architect because of his project for the Kastamonu Governor’s Office (1902). He was appointed architect for the Ministry of Post and Telegraph in 1905.
After the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey, he built the second building for the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Before he died in 1942, Vedat Tek left numerous works, including:
